CONTINUING THE FOLIES
8-12 September 2025

“Continuing the Folies” was a five-day exercise during which we were introduced to
Rhinoceros. Following Bernard Tschumi’s logic of generating the folies and their
emplacement, each student received specific coordinates and an initial volume to
develop. The objective was to design a shop that expresses its function through
its form.
My assigned site was near the Pont Cardinet railway station, a dense and active. I
identified the difficulty of pedestrian circulation caused by the concentration of
parked vehicles. To address this, I proposed a bicycle rental facility that
includes a dedicated bicycle parking area, integrated within a forest of trees.
The intention was to create a more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly environment
while transforming the site’s atmosphere through the introduction of green space
that encourages social interaction.
The project consists of a three-level bicycle rental building accessible through
an exterior staircase and a bicycle lift platform. It opens onto the surrounding
park via a circular promenade that allows users to walk or ride through the site
and enjoy multiple viewpoints of the area.
This exercise served as a foundation for developing my understanding of digital
plan representation and three-dimensional modeling. I subsequently chose to
continue refining the project initiated during that week as a means of furthering
my learning through independent experimentation with various rendering techniques.
